(API) participated in the experts meeting "
New Sources of Development Finance in the Arab Region” that was organized by the ESCWA
in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) during the period 6-7
October 2013. Dr. Ihab magableh, expert in the scientific committee,
represented API in this meeting and delivered a working paper titled “workers’
remittances and economic development: the case of Jordan”. Arab and foreign experts from 18 different countries
discussed the mechanisms of creating new sources of development finance in the
Arab region. In particular, they discussed the mechanisms for utilizing the
financial surpluses at the banking sector to finance development in general and
SMEs in particular. The also highlighted the importance of inbound workers’
remittances and their potential impact on development. The meeting came up with
list of recommendations that will be followed up by ESCWA and Arab
Governments.
