The Arab Planning Institute organized a
training program on "Policies and Programs for Employment and Poverty
Alleviation" during the period 19/2/2017-23/2/2017 in Jordan, for the
benefit of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and
Reconstruction / PECDAR – the State of Palestine.
The
program aimed to introduce and familiarize the participants with the
basic concepts of poverty, its causes, its consequences, and to equip
them with knowledge and skills about the techniques and indicators of
poverty and income distribution measurement. It also, explained the
basic concept of labour market and employment. Further, the program
illustrated the key policies and programs for poverty alleviation and
income redistribution in the Arab countries, and discussed the role of
governments and civil society organizations in fighting poverty. It
explored the successful Arab and international experiences in the field
of poverty alleviation and clarified the most important obstacles to
reducing poverty and achieving equitable income distribution, and
suggested measures to overcome them. Furthermore, it enabled
participants to prepare employment plans for building and strengthening
the skills of young people, creating decent jobs for them, allowing easy
transition from school to work and improving labor market efficiency.
It identified the role of governmental institutions, donor countries,
private sector and civil society organizations, and reached at clear
understanding and evaluation of effective policies and programs
practiced in the Arab countries and examined the elements of success and
failure in the Arab labor markets.
